Voyage was my first sustained solo commission, being 40 minutes In length, fully created by myself only. This project was made possible after receiving a development grant through Hope Mill Theatre and Turn On Fest 2021. As this was during the Covid 19 pandemic the performance itself was livestreamed from the theatre for a ticketed audience.

This piece of theatre consisted of dramatised contemporary dance alongside a video projection and limited props and set.

This was an autobiographical piece of work, taking control of my own narrative as a trans person in an effort to reclaim power for myself over my story.

The whole process was a therapeutic experience as i explored my turbulent and ongoing journey, attempting to navigate the world and processes myself and others in the trans community encounter.

The aim of this work was to speak to the audience in an emotional way while also being educational for the trans/queer community and those outside the community alike.

“You nailed it. Perfectly paced, captured those heartful moments in just the right places and you weren’t afraid to hold onto them, amazing soundtrack, that complimented the narrative exquisitely. You took us on that journey and i felt every emotion. Your technique is class and you combined it perfectly with the story telling. Not many dancers can nail that craft. It was truly wonderful and the best thing iv’e seen for a long time. WINNER.” Hayley Buchan - ex drama/dance teacher, Creative Director at Creative X-Change and Founder & Coach at BMINDful.
