This was a multifaceted project involving a few firsts for myself as a performer; it was my first time working with live music and my first time devising and leading a series of workshops for majority non dancers.
The project included three performances, one in an amazing historic venue, one on a Manchester rooftop for Manchester Pride/Superbia Weekend and the last being at Contact Theatre for their Queer Contact festival.
Part of The Untold Orchrstra’s ‘Icons’ series, this was a tribute to David Bowie with a special focus on his influence on queer culture. This was a very special project for me as a queer person with a great love for Bowie and his work, this aspect of the project was prevalent throughout, from the devising of the performances to the content of the workshops and the audience/participants it was created for.
My favourite part of this project was the rooftop event, it was an intimate performance, yet with a stunning backdrop of a pride-filled city and impeccable musicians which all came together to leave me feeling on top of the world, a truly special day in my career.
